Stainforth Miniature Railway

Several years ago the Doncaster area was lacking in narrow gauge and miniature railways that could be accessed by the public unless you travelled across the boarder from South Yorkshire into North Lincolnshire. Two years ago I suggested a narrow gauge railway could carry visitors to or onto part of the English Nature Thorne Moors. (see below for latest news update on that project).
Another new railway!  Last week I was approached by a group in Stainforth (about five miles from Thorne) if our group could offer help and guidance to construct a miniature railway similar to that we have in Thorne Memorial Park. I have had a look at the area that has been suggested. I will be reporting back to them shortly as soon as I have had further discussion with our other members. The track that we are replacing in Thorne has found a new owner, although I have enough aluminium rail in store that was once at Sandtoft I would recommend that for security reasons they would be better building such a circuit  with steel rail, the same as we are using in Thorne.

Footnote 10th August 2008 Little else has been heard from the group in Stainforth, possibly a project on hold for the moment.
