Sandtoft Miniature Railway group

In May this year our members were very busy preparing and helping the members of the Doncaster & District Model Engineering Society  for the "VE Day in the Park" on the Thorne Memorial Park Miniature Railway. The event was very successful and enjoyed by all. The only difficulty that was encountered was the heavy showers that moved over the region later in the afternoon.

Recently we have made visits to two other railways at Cleethorpes and at the Midland Railway Centre. Both these railways continue to attract many visitors. It is so important that railways such as these continue to attract visitors. A report at the recent A.G.M. of the Southern Federation of Model Engineers details were received that many such railways were having to close down. We have also been back to have a look at the Thorne Peat Moors narrow gauge railway which just for a while is back in operation, but once work the final removal of the peat stacks (peat extracted prior to the closure of the workings) has been completed we are informed all the remaining tracks are to be removed.
Ken Hulks represented the us at the meeting of the North Lincolnshire Tourism group with information about the proposals to open a new 3 foot narrow gauge railway serving a new Visitor Centre and onto the edge or part of the moors next to Goole Moors. North Lincolnshire Tourism Department are very keen to see such a project with a link
