Not only was there about six acres of land available for £80,000 but this also included two buildings. The white building is the very historic former RAF Sandtoft Fire Station that still exists, the morgue that was attached to the fire station at the rear with its concrete slabs had been demolished some years earlier. Several funding originations had been located to match the £40,000 offered by a local business man who had over the years given a great deal of support to the museum and the Sandtoft Miniature Railway group in 1996. So with the funding that was available the land and the buildings would have cost the museum nothing. The land would have been very useful for car parking, displaying of exhibits for the Sandtoft Gathering and St Leger Rally events not to mention a valuable expansion to the museum. Regrettably the negotiations we were about to submit to our fellow Directors of the Sandtoft Transport Centre came to an abrupt halt when we were forced to take a decision to cease all our railway activities because of the incidents documented on the other pages of this website. The above photograph was taken in more recent times with the new owners who use it for storing industrial equipment etc. on the land that could have been a huge benefit to the whole of the museum.
