The Mike Dare Trophy awarded to the Sandtoft Miniature Railway Group 1997

Ten years ago in 1997 the Sandtoft Miniature Railway Group received a second award, the annual Mike Dare Trophy for the most outstanding work and contribution to the museum between 1996 - 1997. In the photograph above guest awards presenter  Dr Bob Tebb (First Bus) hands over the trophy to myself Bob Ashton representing the Sandtoft Miniature Railway Group on Sunday 27th July. The trophy on the left is the one received at the end of the 12 month period when the original was handed back.
It is so hard to believe that less than three years later we were to be stabbed in the back and to be the victims of so much hate vindictiveness and harassment from certain members at the museum.
At least our group of volunteer members can look back with great pride at what we achieved unlike the person/s who instigated the trouble. This person I feel caused the museum not only to lose a railway but possibly valuable land that would have been used today for a sizable expansion to the trolleybus circuit, car parking and further buildings for both vehicles and visitors.

The first award for the railway

Our members show off the Micheal Dare trophy presented for the first time at the 1988 Sandtoft Gathering Event for the SMR members contribution to the Museum during the last 12 months.
